Just a little update
Even if you have done all the above and followed the guidlines given by the HCW, they then use the excuse of "Exceptional Cases Only" and will still not allow funding for GRS _________________ Admin

| That's odd. I was told that if they were to refer anybody now, then they'd be referred allowing full funding up to and including GRS. |

Interesting stuff, i myself have reached stage 4, awaiting referral to Gender clinic for ist appointment, however i understand that even this is subject to funding being approved by HCW, any ideas how long this may take, would appreciate your replies.
Many Thanks

It took me about 18 months to get my first appointment at stage 4, I myself am at Stage 6 and have been refused funding for surgery under the HCWs wonderful little excuse of "Exceptional Cases Only" in other words, the HCW will not approve funding for something they themselves do not understand _________________ Admin

It was Sue Thomas at HCW over the phone.
I too am at "stage 4". Unfortunately though, when I first presented to my GP I was ready, and things were progressing well (ie, in terms of transition and "gender role consolidation") for about 6-12 months. After that, things started getting worse. Fighting HCW to get the treatment I need has turned me into a complete wreck, and as I result I now probably fall foul of their guidelines, as I'm no longer ready to transition immediately, at least not without a little extra medical support and some time to recover. The trouble is, none of my problems are going to get any better unless I have a guarentee of treatment for my "GID".
It makes me laugh that they claim that the policy is to be reviewed in december this year, or earlier if significant information arises. Were the Parliamentary Forum on Transexualisms guidelines, as published last year, not significant enough?
As for the "only referral to HCW approved gender clinics" policy, if that's not illegal now, it's certainly directly opposed to "patient choice", and is even somewhat discriminatory! If it's not illegal already I'd be suprised. |

I'm still fighting them for funding for surgery and they just won't budge on allowing funding for the surgery, it seems that nobody at the HCW actually knows what they are doing or what any of their work associates are doing either. _________________ Admin
